Textile design course was introduced for the first time in year 1995 at Govt. Women’s Polytechnic College, Gwalior. It’s the only government institution in whole of the state which offers three years diploma in Textile Designing purely a technical course catering to the growing demand of textile industry.
Textile design as an integral part of industry is a promising and remunerative carrier option for today. It offers glamour, money and popularity because of the growing demand of Indian textile both in domestic and foreign market students with creativity and technical skills are opting for textile design course as their carrier.
Textile design course comprises both surface design and structural design. Students are provided intense knowledge of fiber, their conversion to yarn and finally to fabric. Students handle embroidery design, print weave and texture. A through knowledge of testing equipments and processing machine is also a part of curriculum. With growing market potential for textile product there is a wide range of carrier options for students of textile design. They are readily consumed by fabric manufacturing companies, garment manufacturing companies. With some experience they can start their own consultancy offering their designs to various weaving industries.
Fresh pass out from the institute may get Rs. 8000-12000/- as their starting salary but with experience there is no limit to the rewards. Once they become chief of the design and development they may draw huge salary with due recognition. Most important thing is a availability of jab at all students.
A large number of passed out students of this branch have been successfully in getting placement in leading textile plant of country like BSC, BTM, ALOK, S.KUMARS, PRATIBHA IND. Etc as supervisors technical assistant, merchandiser development office.
